Researchers Make New iPSC Models of Friedreich’s Ataxia

A team of scientists at Koc University in Turkey has created three new cell models of Friedreich’s ataxia (FA) derived from patients with repeat expansions in their FXN gene. The models “will facilitate studies to understand molecular mechanisms related to FRDA [Friedreich’s ataxia] pathology [disease processes] as well as therapeutic investigations such as drug screening or gene editing,” the researchers wrote.
