Sanofi Genzyme Planning Next Round of Scholarships for Students with Lysosomal Storage Disorders

Sanofi Genzyme established the Chart Your Own Course scholarship program back in 2013 to help students with lysosomal storage disorders pursue their dreams.

Judges will select the 15 winners of this year’s fifth annual installment of the competition soon, according to a press release. And applications for 2018 will be available after September.

Each of the winners receives a $2,500 scholarship.

The National Gaucher Foundation is spreading the word that any U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a lysosomal storage disorder, including Gaucher disease, can apply for next year’s scholarship. The application period will start after this year’s winners are announced in September.

Applicants must demonstrate that they will be a part-time or full-time student in the fall of 2018 at an accredited college, university, vocational or trade school.

The program is open to high school graduates of any age, including those with GEDs. Non-traditional students — such as people who are older — are also encouraged to apply.

Before you apply for 2018, read the rules, eligibility regulations and requirements.

And make sure you gather the documents that must accompany the application. One is a letter from a doctor confirming you have a lysosomal storage disorder. The others are school course and grade transcripts and a personal reference — ideally from a teacher, guidance counselor, employer, or volunteer-work supervisor.

You will also have to write a brief personal statement.

Applicants are not required to be taking a Sanofi Genzyme product or any other treatment in order to apply, and treatment status will have no effect on the selection of winners.

Within three weeks of applying, you should receive an email confirming that your application has been received. If you fail to receive the email, please contact Scholarship America.

If you have questions, call 507-931-1682 and ask for the Chart Your Own Course program manager.

The deadline for completing the 2018 application will be announced soon — so stay tuned.
